Updated: Jul 14, 2023

AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB Performance Events Department July 2019

To: All Clubs Licensed to Hold Retriever Hunt Tests

Subject: Airedales Eligible for Retriever Hunt Tests – Effective August 1, 2019

This is to inform your club of a recent update to the Regulations & Guidelines for AKC Hunting Tests for Retrievers as approved

by the AKC Board of Directors.

The Airedale will become eligible to participate in retriever hunt tests as of August 1, 2019.

A look into the history of the Airedale reveals a broad range of functions for which the breed was used including retrieving. This is a versatile breed, often referred to as the ultimate utilitarian, developed by farmers in England where its origins are believed to have derived from several breeds including retrievers. Currently the Airedale is eligible to participate in Spaniel Hunt Tests.

A complete list of breeds eligible to participate in Retriever Hunt Tests can be found at: https://www.akc.org/sports/retrievers/hunting-tests/eligibility/

This regulation update has been posted to the Regulation Resource webpage and is being sent to the email addresses on file for all Presidents and Secretaries of clubs licensed to hold Retriever Hunt Tests and to all Retriever Hunt Test Judges. Please send any questions, comments or email address updates to: huntingtests@akc.org
